I had the sudden urge to impulse buy some Amiibo figures. Turns out Nintendo has no idea how to sell products so most of the figures were limited print runs, they are now being sold on eBay for $50+ depending on their rarity.

Obviously these things print money, and are flying off the shelves. Do Nintendo just not want money?

I just wanted to pick up a fox or a captain falcon but they made it way too hard so I ended up just pre-ordering a Sheik as a third choice. They seem to be selling so they should actually stock some shelves instead of half assing it.

I wanted the villager because he kinda looks like a less-scruffy me, but it turns out he is one of the rarest.

I bought Luigi but the shelves pretty much emptied after that.

I want Toon Link when it comes out at the end of the month but don't like my chances of getting it. Preorders seem to be sold out online.

I'm noticing a lot of Pikachu and Mario around, but nothing else. It's like treasure hunting.

Yeah the last time I went to Target they had a shelf of nothing but Pikachu.

Nobody likes Pikachu.

I think more likely he was over-produced because Pikachu and Mario are the two most recognisable characters. I did find a Luigi at my Big W, but he's lame.

I wanted the villager as well because he would be compatible with both MK8 & Smash. :(

ozgameshop still have a few different amiibos if you feel like paying $25 each for them.

The figures aren't well made enough to be worth $25. The shortage of GameCube adapters is hurting me, too. Maybe I'm just too slow at buying things.

I got a GC adapter with SSB but I think it interferes with the LAN adapter I have. It seemed to stop working as soon as I plugged the GC adapter in. It's not a big problem, though, as the new wifi modem I got a while back holds a more stable wifi connection that the old one. The old modem kept dropping out so running anything that required a constant signal on wifi was pointless.

I found myself awake when last night's Nintendo Direct aired (daylight savings working for me for once) so I watched it. Most of the games I wasn't too fussed about, but I liked seeing more of Splatoon, Mario Party 10 and Mario vs Donkey Kong.

I was also interested in Wii titles becoming available in the eShop. I was hoping they were going to announce that you could play Wii disks without having to swap to the Wii mode, but that didn't happen so I'm assuming physical media still requires you to swap modes. I'm also a bit curious as to why they've jumped straight to Wii virtual console and missed the Gamecube altogether. You'd think there would be enough Wii games floating around to support the Wii U and that they'd focus on games that aren't readily available anymore.

Project Treasure sounds interesting but they didn't tell you anything of substance to form any sort of opinion about it.

Then there were the new Amiibos. Now they're releasing the Super Mario series in March, which is basically a different release of 6 characters, 5 of which are already out or will be out at the end of the month. Toad is the only 'new' figure. I'm a bit disappointed with the implementation of Amiibos at the moment. The norm seems to be unlocking new costumes for characters in various games and the games where they actually do something substantial are few and far between. I'm happy that the Toad figure unlocks new modes in Captain Toad but it's not released until the end of March so they've missed the boat. It should have been available at the launch of Captain Toad.

Never played the Xenoblade games before, but this one seems to involve a lot of running and not a lot of fighting.

Maybe Nintendo are concerned about releasing GCN games because of how terribly the console sold? They haven't announced N64 games, either, have they?

Yeah, there's no N64 on the Wii U VC, but there are on the Wii VC.

I also don't understand why all the Wii VC titles aren't available on Wii U VC. I understand there's a difference in controller, but I didn't think there's that big a difference. You can always say a classic/pro/wiimote is required to play the games anyway.

So they can charge us $1.30 to re-buy the games we already own.

I don't understand how they can't re-map controls from the classic controller to the gamepad when you're in Wii Mode. With these new "Wii Games on WiiU" that works, but no news on it happening in Wii Mode, which is stupid because the rumour is that these downloadable Wii games just launch Wii Mode anyway.

I just wanna play my Wii VC titles on the gamepad without having to get out a remote and classic controller.
